Use companies and markets to discuss economics, source evaluation and uncertainty. Assess how students explain and reconsider decisions, rather than who achieves the highest simulated return.

Classroom exercise: three decisions in 45 minutes

This exercise can be completed on paper before the app’s planned launch. Use a fictional budget of SEK 10,000; no money is deposited.

Learning objectives: distinguish facts from assumptions, explain an allocation and calculate how a percentage change affects the whole portfolio. Work in groups of 2–4 with paper, a calculator and company descriptions. The teacher can prepare two short company texts if internet access is unavailable.

1. 10 minutes: choose two familiar companies. Write down what they sell, who buys it and which sources support your answers.
2. 10 minutes: allocate the fictional budget between the companies and cash. Explain the allocation and identify a risk for each company.
3. 10 minutes: assume one holding falls 20 percent and the other is unchanged. Calculate the new portfolio value. What changes if you change the allocation?
4. 15 minutes: compare the groups’ reasoning. What information was missing? What would make you change your mind?

Worked example: SEK 4,000 in the falling holding becomes SEK 3,200. With SEK 4,000 in the unchanged holding and SEK 2,000 in cash, the total is SEK 9,200. This is an invented scenario, not a forecast.
